Arctic Moss
The Arctic Moss is one of the most common plants in the Arctic Tundra. The Arctic Mosses scientific name is Calliergon gianteum. Arctic Moss is a part of the Siberian Tundra biome. It only grows for about six to eight weeks in the middle of the summer. Arctic Moss can grow above or under water. It usually grows at the bottom of lake beds. The Arctic Moss warms the ground around it, allowing other plants to grow. It only grows about one centimeter per year. Each shoots live for about seven to ten years and the leaves live for about four years. This plant is eaten by reindeer, caribou, birds, and it is also eaten by humans. Arctic Moss is not an endangered species even though it is such a valuable plant in the Siberian Tundra.
